Making The Most Of Fall With Your Dogs & Chance to Win Acadia Antlers Giveaway

Fall is the perfect time of year to spend some extra time with your pup! Not only is the weather beautiful, but it’s your last chance to take advantage of the shortening daylight hours.

We’ve had fun putting a Fall Bucket List of ideas together for you and your dogs to try, and even a fun contest to WIN $50 worth of Acadia Antlers as well!

Take A Hike

The changing weather makes fall the perfect season to explore a new trail. Without the sun blazing down, you and your dog will be able to enjoy longer sections of trails while beating the heat. 
Ask local dog friends for their favorite spots, or check out a local trail map for dog-friendly places. Call ahead to see if your local apple and pumpkin picking farms are pet friendly.  You might even find a new dog friendly outdoor dining spot that you will be able to visit as well!

Dig Box

If your dog loves to dig, then make them a sandbox! Sand or small gravel is best to keep your dog from getting muddy by digging in dirt. A kid’s sandbox or plastic pool is a great option to hold the material. Once your dog’s dig box is filled with sand, let them have fun!
In the fall, you can also make a temporary dig box by raking up a pile of leaves! Many dogs love jumping in the pile, although you can also encourage your dog to dig and play in the leaves by hiding treats and toys in the pile. 

Hide and Seek

Start by sneaking away when your dog is distracted or having a friend hold your dog. Hide somewhere and call your dog! Not only is it a great way to play with your dog, but it also is a great game to practice your dog coming when you call them. If you have a friend, you can take turns calling your dog while the other one hides to make the game new and challenging!

Hide and seek can also be played by hiding your dog’s toys or Acadia Antlers around the yard for your dog to find them. Start with one toy until your dog has learned the game and then start hiding even more!  You can give your dog a cue such as “find it” to tell them it’s time to start the hide and seek game with their toys. 

Make an Obstacle Course

For the energetic dog in your life, try making a fun obstacle course! For this activity, please follow any guidelines from your dog’s veterinarian about exercise for your individual dog (and don’t put stress on the joints of growing puppies).  Jumps can be made by setting a broomstick on a brick (and this keeps it nice and low, so it’s safer). Other obstacles can be made for a dog to jump onto a platform. A set of chairs covered with a blanket can make a fun tunnel!  Trying something new while enjoying the cooler weather is always fun.

Share a Fun Fall Snack

You can also share a fun fall snack with your dog to celebrate the changing season. Some treats, like pumpkin and peanut butter snacks, can be made to be enjoyed by humans and dogs alike. You can also mix their kibble with some plain pumpkin or fill a Kong toy to celebrate the season in classic pumpkin style.

While you are sipping your favorite Pumpkin Spice Latte, here is a simple Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treat Recipe for you to try for your pups –

Ingredients

• 2 cups flour
• 1 cup canned pumpkin
• 1/2 cup peanut butter (make sure it is Xylitol-free)

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F
2. Mix the pumpkin and peanut butter
3. Stir flour and combine the mixture into a dough
4. Roll out the dough onto a floured surface
5. Cut the dough into shapes with a cookie cutter

7. Bake for 12 minutes
